Second Annual CineMayhem Returns with a FREE All-Retro Indie Horror Line-Up
Including John Carpenter & More in Attendance

(February 21, 2014)—Today, the second annual CineMayhem Film Fest reveals its all-retro line-up for this year’s festival that features a special screening of THE FOG (1980) with legendary Master of Horror John Carpenter in attendance for an intimate Q&A with fans. CineMayhem will also pay homage to several other classic indie horror films with a rare screening of the horror comedy VAMP (1986) and a night celebrating HELLRAISER (1987) and the artwork of genre visionary, Clive Barker.

Several pieces of Barker’s art will be on display during CineMayhem and each night will include screenings of several great short horror films before each classic film as well including FOUND, the latest short from Rebekah McKendry, filmmaker and Director of Marketing for FANGORIA ENTERTAINMENT, starring Darren Lynn Bousman, AJ Bowen, and Morgan Peter Brown.

For its second year, CineMayhem Film Fest is breaking tradition in order to create a truly unique experience for indie horror fans at its new location, Jumpcut Café (13203 Ventura Blvd.) in Studio City, CA. Not only is CineMayhem expanding its celebration of independent horror to three days, beginning on Friday, March 28th and running through Sunday, March 30th, but there will also be NO CHARGE for fans to attend any of the CineMayhem 2014 events.  Each night there will be contests and giveaways, with Scream Factory bringing some fun surprises for our celebration of THE FOG on March 28th.

Created in 2013 by producer and horror journalist Heather Wixson, CineMayhem Film Fest celebrates the legacy of independent horror and the films that have- and continue to- change the landscape of genre cinema. More information on ticketing and the official rundown of all three days of CineMayhem will be announced on the first week of March at CineMayhemFilmFest.com, including details on more special guests and panelists attending this year’s festivities.

Official sponsors for the 2013 CineMayhem Film Fest include Jumpcut Café (www.jumpcutcafe.com), Scream Factory (www.shoutfactory.com/screamfactory), and Daily Dead (www.dailydead.com). Updates on the 2014 CineMayhem Film Fest- New Venue, New Days, New Format, FREE ADMISSION

Hi Everyone,

CineMayhem Film Fest Founder, Heather Wixson, here. It's been a crazy few months for me- both professionally and personally- but thankfully a few things are finally falling into place, including details for CineMayhem 2014.

Just a few weeks ago, I found out that we would no longer have access to the same venue we had for the 2013 CineMayhem Film Fest due to management and theater booking policy changes. It was indeed very sad, and admittedly a bit stressful learning about the changes so late in the game, but I was thankful to have had such a wonderful home for CineMayhem for its very first year and was now looking for an equally awesome home for the fest that would be inviting to film lovers by still give people a place to eat and hang out without feeling like they're just being shuffled in and out of movies like cinematic cattle.

All that being said, I'm beyond thrilled to announce that CineMayhem Film Fest will be held this year at the Jumpcut Cafe in Studio City, California (13203 Ventura Blvd.) on March 28th through the 30th (several weeks after our initially announced festival dates). Elric Kane and the good folks at Jumpcut have fostered a great atmosphere for film fans since they opened their doors and I couldn't be happier to be working with them for this year's festival. Also, because of our partnership with Jumpcut, I'm able to make the 2014 CineMayhem Film Fest a FREE EVENT. We will NOT be selling tickets for CineMayhem at all, entry will be on a first-come, first serve basis so you'll definitely want to get there early.

Because of the dates being pushed back, we will also be in contact with selected filmmakers for the 2014 CineMayhem Film Fest no later than Friday, January 31st so if you've submitted, you'll be hearing from us shortly either way.

I'm incredibly grateful to be bringing CineMayhem back for another year and am equally excited about working with Jumpcut Cafe to bring everyone some truly unique and different films and events this year.

Look for more official announcements coming soon.

Thank you!

The 2014 CineMayhem Film Festival is NOW Accepting Submissions!

After a highly successful first festival this past March at the Muvico Theaters in Thousand Oaks, CA, the CineMayhem Film Fest is returning in 2014 for a second year, showcasing more great independent horror films and up-and-coming filmmakers who are creating some of the most engaging, thoughtful and more often than not- scary as all hell- stories in the genre world these days.

As we continue to adapt CineMayhem for our second fest, we're also going to be making some programming changes and are already working on a few more cool things for attendees next year that horror fans will absolutely love (especially for you classic horror lovers out there!). Stay tuned for more on that in the coming months.

That all being said, the 2014 CineMayhem Film Fest is now officially accepting submissions; since we're trying to keep everything as easy as possible for all you filmmakers out there (and we're also growing this year), we've made our submission process very simple: fill out the attached submission form, pay your submission fees via PayPal (see our sidebar) and then mail us your project. It's that easy.

Filmmakers may start submitting today; the regular deadline for submission is December 31, 2013  and the late deadline for submissions is January 10, 2014- films chosen for the 2014 CineMayhem Film Fest will be notified of acceptance no later than January 24, 2014.

For those of you who would like to submit an online link instead of a physical screener, please email us CineMayhemFilmFest@gmail.com to discuss this option more. And for those of you who may have more questions about the festival itself, please send us an email as well.

You can download the submission form HERE or use the link in our sidebar to download the application.  Again, thank you to everyone who made the first CineMayhem Film Fest such a success- here's to a great 2014!

Good luck everyone!

CineMayhem 2014 Film Fest Announcement

Since we're about six months away, we thought it was about time to announce that the CineMayhem Film Fest indeed will be returning in March 2014.

Look for a ton of announcements during September; CineMayhem is also pleased to announce that this year we will be taking submissions and more information on that will be released after September 1st.

We're also in the process of upgrading a few things- we got a spiffy new CineMayhem logo and soon there will also be a brand new website coming to www.cinemayhemfilmfest.com too.

We'd also like to thank everyone again for such a great festival earlier this year; it's because of all of you that 2014 is going to be possible and for that, we're truly grateful.

More soon!

Teaser Trailer:

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Adam Barnick's first music video for Rivulets/Nathan Amundson was the recent "I Don't Want to Be Found," on Rivulets's newest album We're Fucked (2011, Important Records).  Largely performance-based, it explored anonymity and escape from one's modern surroundings through a few key images, leaving the bigger picture implied.

Director Barnick's second collaboration with Rivulets leaves modern trappings behind to quietly, creepily make its way through a slightly abstract funeral procession in Civil War-era America.  The video is also unique in that it is for a song from Nathan's debut album RIVULETS, released a decade ago.

"How, Who" is a deliberate, haunting song that softly works its way under your skin, and Barnick matches that, avoiding the hyperkinetic style of most music videos for a chillingly cold black-and-white universe, with visuals that tip their hat to past genre work such as Dreyer's VAMPYR and classic Universal Horror.
